Scrapbooks and files containing pictures and descriptions of coats of arms and scrapbooks of biographical sketches of prominent individuals. Marian Gault was an interior decorator from Johnson County, Kansas. She employed the designs that make up family coats of arms as a design element when personalizing home decor for her clients. She purchased many volumes of books on heraldry, family mottos, crests, and coats of arms. A great many of these books were purchased in England. She compiled data of every description concerning knights and kings and the usages of noble families in medieval times. The scrapbooks appear to have been compiled from clippings from these books. They were used in her business. The scrapbooks were probably compiled between 1949, when Ms. Gault started her business, and approximately 1980. Series 1 (boxes 1 and 2) includes genealogical materials relating to Ms. Gault's Stratton ancestors.

Marian Lee Gault was born in Kansas City, Kan., on July 18, 1924, the daughter of Orville Byron and Helen Stratton Gault. She attended Gulf Park College, Gulfport, Miss.; Kansas City Junior College; and the University of Arizona, where she received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1945.
